Contrary to popular belief, Roosevelt High School does in fact have an open lunch policy.
Many students are either unaware that Roosevelt allows students to go off campus for lunch, or they do not know the requirements for eligibility.
“I did not know that I could go outside for lunch,” said senior Marquan Burton, one of many upperclassmen who is a little foggy on the details.
Some of the confusion is the result of a change in policy two years ago. Back then, the only requirements for leaving school for lunch were that a student was a junior or senior, and carried a GPA of 2.0 or higher.
But the new policy adds two more requirements: at least 95 percent attendance, and less than four tardies. For some reason, that gave many students the impression that open lunch was now off the table.
“I guess the administration has not communicated the policy effectively since it was changed,’’ said Leanne Kampfe, an Assistant Principal.
So, if you’re an punctilious upperclassmen…… be aware.
